Flights and airport taxes, medical and travel insurance, visa costs, police or background check, additional drinks and gratuities, extra local excursions, personal items and toiletries and laundry (can be arranged at an additional cost).
Accommodation on this project is basic, but it’s also everything you need! On our desert elephant conservation program you’ll experience different accommodation options depending on which stage of the program you’re in.Â
Start your adventure with an overnight stay in comfortable dormitory-style housing in Swakopmund (upgrades available at an extra charge, availability dependent). Then make your way to our base camp, where you’ll experience our unique open-air treehouse. Listen to the night sounds of the Namib Desert from a safe, raised platform. When you’re on a project site you’ll experience our mobile camps, including tents or bed rolls under the stars. Because some days are spent wild camping, we recommend you bring biodegradable wipes.
Wi-Fi is available in Swakopmund, but there is no Wi-Fi access once you arrive on base. You can buy a local SIM card at the airport and load data. There is reception on and off, but the beauty of this place is its remote nature. Staff keep satellite phones on hand for emergencies. Electricity is also limited, so we recommend bringing a power bank as a backup. Laundry cleaning is available for a small fee when you’re at base camp.
